Before starting with BTG, I had never made a budget in my life. I always just assumed that the money coming in would be enough to cover what was going out as it somehow always had. Before coaching, I had a feast/famine mindset. I either had money (but for short periods) or I was desperately broke and there was never a middle ground. My number one goal was breaking the famine cycle! As much as I tried to segregate emotion from money (hello paralysis and ambivalence), the anxiety over money always ruled. Breaking this cycle, mostly with establishing goals so fierce I’d never jeopardize their success was a key breakthrough. Now, I can go to the grocery store and buy food without worrying what source I’m pulling from to pay for it. Same with gas. I literally just go fill up my tank because I know it’s in the budget AND there is money in my account to cover it. Whoa. Like, huge. And we just bought a house!! Keep changing lives ladies!!

Honestly, my mindset was basically out of sight, out of mind. As long as I wasn't getting a calls from bill collectors then I was doing something right, but since starting Beyond the Green coaching, I have drastically changed my mindset to focus on increasing my personal financial awareness. That is were the true financial control starts. Not only did my mindset shift from lack of following a budget, it also allowed me to work on other habits that I wanted to change in my life from procrastination to improving my discipline. I didn't really know where all of my money was going each month, and I didnt know how to get that under control in order to spend - it was very frustrating. My number one goal was to get control of the spending. The greatest breakthrough I had was getting to a place with my emergency fund savings where I could quit the job that I hated to take a job with half the pay so that I could pursue my dream job. Before signing up [for coaching], I felt stuck and overwhelmed by my financial situation. I was making monthly minimum payments on my debt but felt like I wasn’t making any real progress. I had big goals for my life, but they felt out of reach because of the weight of my debt. I was in a shame spiral about money and my number one goal was to not be so locked in shame and blame. I learned that money is not hard in and of itself, it is our relationship with it that can be tangled. The management money and the management of my relationship with money requires work - namely consistent time and attention. Now, I can track household expenses, make a budget, be honest about spending, and have level headed conversations with my partner about money that would have previously resulted in an explosive argument. Before coaching, my mindset was ‘I don’t deserve what I have because I didn’t earn it.’ My goal was to gain ownership of my money. AJ taught me that I can spend on what I value and there is no shame in that. Also that I am allowed to claim my wealth and I am worthy of it. AJ is amazing. She is my constant touching stone of understanding the complications of money and wealth. She has guided me through so many financial changes and empowers me to have a voice with what I want, how I want to spend what I have, and ask for what I am worth at work.
